UK–Türkiye Trade Deal Expected to Take Effect in 2026
A revised trade agreement between Türkiye and the United Kingdom is expected to come into force in 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
According to the British Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye, negotiations on the updated agreement have progressed into an advanced stage, with both sides working towards a broader and more modern framework. The new deal aims to build on the existing free trade agreement by expanding its scope and addressing emerging sectors.
The UK continues to view Türkiye as an attractive market due to its strategic location, young workforce and growing technology ecosystem. At the same time, Turkish companies are increasingly seeking opportunities in the UK, particularly in areas such as finance, digital services and construction-related technologies.
Bilateral trade between the two countries has reached approximately £28 billion annually, underlining the importance of the partnership. The modernised agreement is expected to further boost trade volumes, reduce barriers and encourage mutual investment.
Once finalised and ratified, the updated trade deal is anticipated to provide businesses in both Türkiye and the UK with improved market access and a more predictable trading environment, supporting long-term economic cooperation.
